Covid-19 Vaccination Programme for Romney Marsh
Published: 18 January 2021
We have been working with the local Primary Care Trust, County Councillor, District Councillors and Romney Marsh Community Support Hub on the delivery of a vaccination programme for Romney Marsh.
The first step in this programme is the establishment of a vaccination centre at Lydd Airport, which will begin delivery of the vaccine to the over 80s on Wednesday 20th January. The current plan is to deliver the Pfizer vaccine starting at 9am on Wednesday 20th January. The sessions are initially planned to run on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week from 9 am to 6pm.
We are working with other local organisations to facilitate the establishment and smooth running of this facility.
The NHS will initially contact all over 80s in the area to arrange their vaccination appointments. We would urge residents NOT to turn up at Lydd Airport without an appointment, neither should they call their surgeries but wait for their allocated appointment.
The Right Worshipful Mayor of New Romney Cllr Paul Thomas said "This is a great first step to protect the most vulnerable members of our community. We have to be patient during the rollout and acknowledge that other vaccination facilities on Romney Marsh are also being considered. This has been a very difficult time for our local surgeries and they have done a great job."
