Fly tipping in litter bins

Published: 15 February 2021

DID YOU KNOW that putting any household rubbish in a public litter bin is classed as fly tipping, is illegal, and could end up getting you fined?

Over the last few weeks, in New Romney, we have been seeing an increase in this happening, with bundles of clothes, household paper and cardboard, and even used cat litter, being disposed of in our public bins. Whilst we understand that last weeks disruption to refuse collections, due to the weather, and also the temporary closure of charity shops due to the pandemic, contributes to this problem, please seek official ways of disposing of household waste and unwanted items.
Residents can continue to dispose of waste either by:
• Going direct to your local household waste recycling centre - book a visiting slot here https://www.kent.gov.uk/.../find-your-nearest-tip/new-romney.
• Booking a bulky waste collection from Folkestone and Hythe District Council for a small charge. https://folkestone-hythe.gov.uk/.../Bulky-waste-collection
• Hire a waste contractor to dispose of their waste. Before doing so you should ask for a waste carrier licence, where the waste will be disposed and a receipt/invoice.
