New Romney Mayor Presents Annual Community Awards
Services to the Community of New Romney were this week honoured when the Right Worshipful the Mayor of New Romney, Councillor Paul Thomas visited recipients and presented awards in the town.
The ‘Pride of New Romney Awards’ this year spanned a 2 year interval, 2019 – 2021, owing to the coronavirus pandemic. These awards acknowledge and give recognition to individuals or community groups who live, work, volunteer or provide a community service within the boundary of the Town and Coast Wards of New Romney and who has / have made a significant contribution to the Parish during the current civic year or over a period of years.
Presentations were made to Mr Jon Wilson, for Individual Service to the Town, and to Miss Hannah Buckland, for Individual Service to the Town by a Young Person. Two awards for Services to the Town by a Community Group or Organisation were presented, the first to The Rotary Club of Romney Marsh, which was accepted by Barbara Gold on their behalf, and the second to The Young High Street Traders, who comprise of Hannah and Sarah O’Hare, of Bakery 64, Katie Marsh of Deblyn’s Tea Shop, Sadie McKay of Savages, and Louise Douglas of That Pet Shop. The Mayoral Star Award 2021 was given to Mr David Knight, for Services to the Town.
Also being presented were the Kent Association of Local Council’s Community Awards. The Award for 2020, which was also delayed due to the Covid crisis, was given to Mr Eric Brown and Mr Paul Alford, from Litter Picking Watch Romney Marsh. 2021’s Award was presented to The Staff and Volunteers of Romney Marsh Community Hub.
New Romney Town Council are now accepting nominations for the 2021-22 ‘Pride of New Romney’ Awards, and details and nomination form can be found on the New Romney Town Council website www.newromney-tc.gov.uk . Closing date 31st March 2022.
