Warning following catalytic converter thefts in Folkestone

Drivers are being warned to be vigilant following a series of catalytic converter thefts in the Folkestone area.

The first offence was reported in Boscombe Road on Saturday 30 April 2022. Three further incidents then took place in Trimworth Road and Grimston Gardens overnight between Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 May.

Enquiries into the most recent of these offences suggest the thieves may have worn boiler suits to make them look like mechanics carrying out work on the vehicle.

Investigations into the incidents are ongoing and anyone with information is urged to call Kent Police, quoting reference 46/83876/22.

Motorists in the area are being advised to take precautions to prevent their vehicles being targeted.

To reduce the risk of theft, owners are advised to:

• Keep vehicles in a garage whenever possible, or park in busy, well-lit areas.

• Park close to fences, walls and kerbs with the exhaust closest to the barrier to make it difficult for thieves.

• Consider fitting a catalytic converter clamp or security cage to protect it.
