Becoming a local councillor means you can influence decisions about the services delivered to residents in your area.
The
main role of a local councillor is to represent the people and communities living in their ward. The councillor provides community leadership to champion local interests.
A district or parish councillor is expected to take steps to keep in touch with your community and to regularly attend council meetings.
Share your skills and experience whilst gaining political experience and developing useful skills such as debating and problem solving.

All 30 district council seats will be up for election on 4th May 2023, as will all the parish council seats. Councillors make a huge difference to the quality of life of local people and how community issues are dealt with.
Folkestone and Hythe District Council are holding an open evening for prospective candidates and agents at the Civic Centre between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday 11th January 2023. Further dates are being organised and will be advertised on the FHDC website and social channels.
It is an opportunity to ask questions about the process of standing for election, as well as find out more about the duties and responsibilities of elected councillors.
