Do you have a digital photograph that captures the feeling of the winter season and/or Christmas in New Romney and the surrounding area?

The Right Worshipful the Mayor of New Romney is holding a competition to find 3 photographs reflecting this, one from each age category. These will be used to produce the Mayor’s Christmas cards, and also New Romney Christmas cards that can be sold to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charities Fund, which this year go to ‘Touched By Cancer’, ‘Fun4All Shepway Disability Club’, and ‘New Romney Counselling Service’. The photos will also be displayed on the Town Council’s website and Facebook pages.

Pictures submitted must have been taken by you and can can include aspects of the wildlife, environment, and community events that have taken place in the parish of New Romney.

There are 3 age categories for entry, and 1 winner will be chosen from each:

4 – 11 yrs

12 – 17yrs and

18yrs+

Winners will receive a certificate and small prize, a pack of their own cards and a framed copy of their winning photograph, which will be presented at the Light Up New Romney event.

The competition is free to enter.

Submit your entries, by email, together with a completed entry form.

You can submit two photographs which must have been taken by you, along with your completed entry form, to mayors.secretary@newromney-tc.gov.uk. Closing date for entries is 5th November 2023.

Entry rules

  • The competition is open to all amateurs.
  • Two entries per person.
  • Each image can only be entered once.
  • The image must have been the entrant’s original work.
  • Entrants must be the sole author and owner of the copyright of all images entered.
  • By submitting an image containing identifiable human subjects, all entrants declare that those subjects (or in the case of infants, their parent or guardian) are happy for their image to be shared publicly.
  • New Romney Town Council and the Town Mayor do not accept any liability for the publication of unlawfully reproduced images.
  • All images should show the New Romney area according to the theme of the competition this year.
  • Obvious computer-generated or computer-altered images will not be accepted (Photoshop etc).
  • Artwork and illustrations will not be accepted.
  • Images should be submitted as jpg and in Landscape format. A green tick and red x  Description automatically generated
  • Each jpg should be a maximum of 300dpi and 5MB in file size, with entrant’s name, email and contact telephone number.
  • All entries must be submitted via the given email address.
  • The Town Council and Mayor take no responsibility for corrupted or late entries.
  • By entering images, entrants grant to the Town Council and Mayor the non-exclusive right to reproduction for any purpose at any time in any media with attribution.
  • The winners’ consent to the use of their image, name and/or photograph in any publicity carried out by New Romney Town Council and the Town Mayor, without further compensation.
  • The winning images will be judged by the Right Worshipful the Mayor of New Romney and the Mayoress.
  • The Mayor’s decision on all matters relating to the competition is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  • The Mayor reserves the right, at his discretion, to disqualify or discount any entrant or image.
  • When an entry is submitted by a parent or guardian on behalf of an entrant, the parent and/or guardian shall be responsible for the entrant’s compliance with these rules.
