There was an incident a few days ago of males in a white van 'cold calling' on properties offering to jet wash driveways, this was in the Dymchurch area.

My advice would be NOT to take up the offer no matter how good the price might seem, not unless the person offering it is from a reputable company that can be proven there and then but most reputable trades firms wouldn't cold call anyway, they would advertise remotely or may leaflet drop and that way, it would be up to the property owner to make contact, not for the tradesperson just to turn up unannounced.

Unfortunately I have dealt with a few incidents this year where the home owner takes the cold caller's word and doesn't get a written quotation with a 'cooling off' period and then discovers that the price goes up unexpectedly, always agree the price first and in writing and check out the company before any works start to make sure they are legitimate and if you have any doubts, then go elsewhere and do not feel pressured or embarrassed about saying 'NO THANK YOU' because if they are genuine they will respect your decision and will provide the information you require with regards to your due diligence checks before you part with your money.

This time of the year especially, there are a small minority out there who want your money to pay for their Christmas and don't appear to have a moral compass about how they come by that money so my appeal is always think twice if someone cold calls offering their services, not all are bad and will probably do a really good job but make sure you check the company out beforehand.
