Precept 2024-2025
Published: 11 January 2024
NEW ROMNEY TOWN COUNCIL has set its Precept for 2024-25 at £396,952.00 which, in real terms, equates to a VERY SMALL INCREASE on the average Band D Council Tax Bill.
This achievement means that the increase in the Town Council element of the average Band D Council Tax Bill will be of only 45p per calendar month in 2024 – less than half a packet of crisps or one fifth of an average cup of coffee from a typical High Street outlet per month, despite the Council’s clear aim of sustaining, and even developing, its current high quality service provision amidst a difficult economic climate.
New Romney Town Council is a very pro-active Council which prides itself in working hard to improve and enhance the local area for the benefit of the local community. With this in mind, it has, for the first time, developed and approved a four-year Strategic Plan in order to focus its approach to improving the Town for the benefit of local residents. It has also developed and approved a local Highway Improvement Plan to help make New Romney a safer place.
SUPPORTING DEVELOPMENT OF NEW ROMNEY AS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, WORK AND VISIT THROUGH:
· Maintenance of historic listed public buildings
· Provision and maintenance of local play and exercise equipment (Fairfield Road Recreation Ground and The Greens, Littlestone)
· Provision, maintenance and protection of local open spaces
· Provision and maintenance of Allotment Gardens
· Practical enhancements to local amenity areas (eg public seating, bins, planters, cycle racks, signposts etc)
· Provision of additional local amenities such as the new Community Hall and Sports Pavilion – look out for further update soon
· Providing and supporting local community events
· Supporting local groups and organisations
· Supporting the community through unforeseen emergencies
· Keeping local residents informed through access to Council meetings and via the Town Council’s website and social media page
WORKING TOWARDS A POSITIVE AND DYNAMIC FUTURE
A message from our Town Mayor, Councillor John Rivers:
“Despite external financial pressures, New Romney Town Council has set a realistic budget which will enable it to continue to improve the Town for the benefit of local residents, whilst minimizing financial impact on the Town’s tax-payers. Having published a Strategic Plan for the next four years, plans include improving local road safety, becoming a Dementia-Friendly Council and a reduction in our carbon footprint, within the Council’s financial capabilities.”
