New Laws About Postal Voting at Elections

Published: 26 March 2024

Electors who vote by post should return their postal vote by putting them in a Royal Mail post box or hand them in at a Post Office.

If you miss the post, or think it will not be delivered in time, by 10pm on Thursday, 2 May 2024, new laws mean that:
• If you hand in your postal vote, or the postal vote of others, to staff at a polling station you must complete an additional form.
• If you hand in your postal vote, or the postal vote of others, to staff at the Folkestone & Hythe District Council office, during office hours of 10am – 4pm, you must complete an additional form.
• Failure to complete this additional form, in full, will result in all of the postal votes you are handing in being rejected.
• A person can only hand in a maximum of five postal votes for others, in addition to their own.
• Campaigners can not hand in postal votes for others unless it is for a family member, that they provide regular care for.
