A message from PC Steve Putland (Kent Police, Police Constable, Folkestone Neighbourhood Beat Officer) regarding Anti-social Behaviour over Halloween and Bonfire Night

"Hello all.
I know I'm a bit early on this subject and there will probably be some more posts regarding these events but I just need to politely request a favour regarding eggs, yes, eggs oh and door knocking!!
We've all been kids and I'm sure we've all been a little bit naughty when we were kids and that's part of growing up but throwing eggs at people's homes, cars or indeed at someone is crossing the line.
I know that the vast majority of children are very well behaved but it doesn't hurt for them to know that egg throwing isn't acceptable because although it may seem fun for them to launch half a dozen at a target, it's not fun for anyone trying to scrub egg off their home or car especially if it's dried on and in actual fact this could be classed as criminal damage if the property is damaged by the egg or the owner has to use detergents etc to clean it off as that technically is out of their own pocket when they shouldn't needed to have used that product, petty you might think but that's how it is I'm afraid.
Also, if an egg hits someone, then that's an assault whether it was deliberate or recklessly thrown!
Another pastime is to knock on someone's front door or ring their bell and run away, again, I would hazard a guess that most of us have done this in our childhood, but to the youngsters of the Marsh, my message to you is, you don't know how vulnerable that person is in that property and your actions although seem harmless to you, may have a lasting effect on the person who lives there, they could be elderly and live on their own or they could just be a very anxious person so please think twice if your friends are daring you to do this, it's also very annoying and the chances are you'll be captured on a doorbell camera, which means that you probably hadn't thought that through!!
There's been a few incidents in Lydd of both egg throwing and door knocking and I'm looking into identifying the children involved and when I do, I'll be popping round to see your parents or whoever looks after you to give a friendly warning to stop.
On another subject, you may have seen that I've got a female colleague with me, she is PC Briony ‘Bee’ Walsh and is not only a great asset to the Marsh but she's a great help to me too, halving my workload which means between us we can get more done!
Thank you.
Steve."
