VE Day 80 - Can you help?
Published: 31 March 2025
Do you have memories of VE day, in 1945, or do you know someone who does?
We need your help!
As part of the New Romney celebration day of the 80th Anniversary of VE day, New Romney Town Council and the New Romney History Society are collecting stories and memories from that momentous day - 8th May 1945. These will be shared in a special display in the town, on a page on the Town Council website, on social media, and some will be used in the Community event that is planned for the beacon lighting on The Greens.
Please do let us use these precious stories, to share with the New Romney Community of today, and to pass down to the generations to come. However large, however small, they all paint a picture of the joy, sadness, remembrance and celebration that was the declaring of the end of World War 2 in Europe.
They can be written down or recorded in a video, and either emailed to me at fc.clerk@newromney-tc.gov.uk, or posted or dropped into the Town Hall, High Street, New Romney TN28 8BT.
Any accompanying photos would also be greatly appreciated.
Please let us know if you are happy for us to use your full name, just Christian name, or remain anonymous.
We look forward to hearing from you.
