MAUDE COMMUNITY CENTRE UPDATE
In response to the Article ‘ Seashells Nursery faces uncertain future as Ofsted delay threatens closure’ in this week’s Looker, New Romney Town Council would like to clarify the situation.
The Town Council is not aware of any potential delay to the Seashells Nursery transferring its operations to the new Maude Community Centre Annex building as soon as it is officially handed over to the Town Council by the contractors.
In fact, it has been confirmed that all official paperwork has been completed by the Nursery proprietor in respect of Ofsted requirements.
The only delay to the transfer to the new building is, in fact, the recent emergency gas repair works at the junction of Station Road, which resulted in the Town Council’s Contractors having the permit for works in the highway at the Maude Community Centre site suspended for two weeks. Since it was not possible to complete those works until after the permit suspension was lifted, the whole project has been delayed by a further two weeks – pushing back the final completion date from end of 5th June 2025 to 17th June 2025. Similarly, it was not possible for the contractors to officially hand over the annexe building to the Town Council as it was not safe for the building to be utilised until after those roadworks had been completed. Therefore, the transfer over of the nursery to the new building had to be delayed until Wednesday 9th April 2025.
The Town Council has been liaising closely with the nursery proprietor to enable the transfer to take place with no interruption to the services that the nursery provides to local families.
For the record, no enquiry has been received from The Looker in regard to this matter, despite the article stating that the Council had been contacted but no response had been received.
