CALLING ALL SINGERS! New Romney Needs YOU!
Published: 14 April 2025
On 8th May New Romney will be joining in with the nation and Europe in celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day. New Romney Town Council are organising a free community event on The Greens, commencing at 7.30pm, and culminating with the Beacon Lighting at 9.30pm.
As part of the evening, we will be joining together with some community singing of songs from the period, interspersed with memories and stories of the actual day from local people.
We would love as many voices there as possible, to make it a joyful occasion. At the end we will also be joining in with a national singing of "I Vow To Thee My Country" as the beacon is lit. Song sheets will be available to download from the New Romney Town Council website beforehand, or there will be paper copies available on the day.
So come and enjoy the evening, dress in period costume if you would like to, and let’s make our voices heard across Romney Marsh, in Celebration of the end of the Second World War, in Remembrance of the sacrifices made, and in Hope for peace in the future!
