Message from the Kent Police Romney Marsh Beat Officer

Hello all
I was called to a property recently whereby the home owner was having extensive work done to their roof, in fact the contactor was there when I arrived.
The home owner's bank had raised a concern to us due to the amount of money wanting to be transferred and the potential vulnerabilities of the home owner however, everything was found to be in order in this case and the work progressed.
However, this could have ended in a very different way had the contractor been a rogue trader with the home owner thousands of pounds out of pocket coupled with shoddy work so I thought it would be a good reminder with regards to cold callers/rogue traders offering or even telling you that your property needs maintenance work doing to it.
Remember, it's your property and you decide what work gets done to it and by who and it's your money and you decide how you spend it!
Please try and avoid employing cold callers as some of them try and put the pressure on for the work to be done and quite often with no formal contract. If you need work done, please do some research on reputable companies and then ask them for a survey and a written quotation and don't sign/agree to it until you are 100% satisfied with what work is going to be done and you've agreed a price, also get at least two quotes so that you can compare.
