Published: 10 November 2025
We are sharing a request for information that Folkestone Community Safety Unit at Folkestone Police Station have received from ‘Ageing Without Children East Kent’. AWOC are a small and entirely volunteer run support service who are requesting information to be provided to them in relation to services/events suitable for those who would otherwise be alone from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day. This includes the period from 27-31 Dec which is often described by members as being “the loneliest time of the year”. The aim is to collate and be able to signpost onwards to all, making the festive period more enjoyable for everyone. Do you know of any events/services running over this period? – If so, please share these directly to:info@awoceastkent.org.uk Information can otherwise be accessed as and when it is available by: 1. Looking at the window display at Open Door Project, 101 High Street, Hythe the week commencing 1 December. 2. Checking the Social Enterprise Kent website www.sekgroup.org.uk nearer to Christmas for when they publish their list for all the districts of East Kent. 3. Checking Kent Coast Volunteering website for volunteering opportunities www.kcv.org.uk 4. Email info@awoceastkent.org.uk and ask to be added to their mailing list monthly email newsletter. Meetings are for people who are ageing without children either because they don’t have any or their children are unavailable to care for reasons such as estrangement/distance/own additional needs, however the newsletter is available to anyone with access to an email address, ideal for receiving and sharing with anyone you know who may benefit.
