Public Engagement for Parish Highway Improvement Plan
Published: 19 November 2025
New Romney Town Council with help from Kent County Council and Folkestone and Hythe District Council have developed and adopted a
Parish Highway Improvement Plan
The aim of the Parish Highway Improvement Plan is to look at all the Road Safety issues we have in New Romney, Littlestone & Greatstone and put together a coordinated plan of improvements to address the identified road safety shortfalls.
The next priority to be reviewed within the Parish Highway Improvement Plan is the proposal of introducing 20MPH speed limits in zones 3 to 6. During the development of the PHIP Several safety concerns were raised regarding vehicles speeding through the community. The areas identified have been broken down into zones, from 1 to 6. There is an approved Traffic Regulation Order in place for zones 1 and 2 and New Romney Town Council are currently in the process of securing funding to complete installation of the 20MPH limit for these areas. Now, with the help of KCC we are looking ahead to put together a bid for funding for the remaining zones 3 to 6.
Please come and see the proposed plans at a New Romney Town Council Parish Highway Improvement Plan Public Engagement Meeting on Saturday 29th November 2025 10.00am - 12.00 noon at The Assembly Rooms, Church approach, New Romney TN28 8AS
New Romney Town Council and Kent County Council would welcome any feedback or comments you wish to make regarding this proposal. Please note that this an informal engagement to canvas local opinion. If there is a clear consensus, or a strong view that should not be introduced these proposals will be reconsidered. Either way, the outcomes of the informal consultation will be discussed in detail by New Romney Town Council, Kent County Council and Folkestone and Hythe District Council.
