Kent Police Message regarding Nuisance Motorcycles
Published: 17 February 2026
PC Steve Putland, our local Folkestone Neighbourhood Beat Officer, has issued the following message:
I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Nuisance motorcycles, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.
We are aware that the issue with off-road motorcycles at the bottom of Church Lane New Romney rears it's head from time to time. Today I responded to a report of two off-road bikes on the plot of land at the very bottom of Church Lane (adjacent to the woods that lead to Dunes Road) and both riders were spoken to and given words of advice and told not to return, no formal action was taken on this occasion due to the circumstances surrounding why they were there. I have since spoken to the landowner who has confirmed that he has NOT given anyone permission to ride off-road bikes/vehicles on the land.
Please feel free to post this message on social media so that it is shared far and wide!
Note to anyone who rides off-road motorcycles/vehicles on this land or elsewhere other than a road, you could be issued with a Section 59 Warning (Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002) Section.34 Road Traffic Act 1988 (off-road driving) AND is causing, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public then a warning can be issued to you which lasts for 12 months and if you're caught again within that 12 months, your motorcycle/vehicle can be seized, please check the legislation so that you don't fall foul of it, thank you.
